2008 Chester County Wizards 13U - Head Coach: George Rule

2008 Season

Expectations for the 2008 season were slightly optimistic due to the AAU age rule change. Undersized and now underage, the team knew it was going to have its work cut out for them to experience the same success it had enjoyed the previous year. The team started the season by competing in the Belles Super Regional, promptly earning a return trip to Nationals going 6-0. The Wizards finish a disappointing second in the 2008 Mid Atlantic AAU Regional Championship, loosing for the first time to any Mid Atlantic Region team in over two years. Traveling to tournaments in New York, Maryland and Virginia the team played a challenging schedule, competing against national teams and often playing up in higher age groups against girls 14-16 years old. The girls had an extremely impressive tournament record including victories over two top five teams in the nation.

With only 7 players due to injuries, competing for the 2008 13 & Under Girls AAU National Championship Tournament National Championship was going to be quite the challenge. After stumbling in their first two games, they needed to win the next two games for any hope to compete for a national championship. Winning the remaining two games convincingly the girls advanced to the championship bracket, however suffering another setback with a season ending injury to their center. Down to only six players, with pure determination and a never say die attitude the Wizards went 2-2 in championship play, claiming 13 place in the country for the second year in a row. This was only possible due to our team play and the overall skills of all our players. Over the course of the tournament our players showed great skill and displayed flawless sportsmanship. Scorers, officials, opposing coaches, and parents from opposing teams all commented on the ability, hustle, and class the girls demonstrated.

For the season, the team finished 58 - 9 and for their two-year run compiled an impressive 110 - 15 record, winning a Mid Atlantic Regional Championship and one runner-up trophy, and two Sweet Sixteen finishes at the National Championships. This tremendous group of hard working student-athletes is a wonderful collection of young women, who also happens to be pretty terrific basketball players. Congratulations on an outstanding season!
