The 2009 season for the u13 chester county wizards was a great success. Despite having four different players throughout the season miss extended time due to broken bones or serious sprains forcing the team to only have an entire team for 2 of our 10 tournaments we competed against many of the top aau programs both regioanlly and nationally. After a successful showing in the mid atlantic regional we qualified for div 1 nationals competiting in the u13 event in ohio.

The team rodes its strenghts of pressure man to man defense combining it with an unselfish offensive style which led to balanced scoring helping the team to improve dramatically from its prior season.

These young women continually demonstrated class and sportsmanship and are prepared for the rigors of high school basketball.

Dan McDermott began coaching CYO basketball in 1982. This years Wizards team will be his 38th team that he has coached with the majority of them being at the 7th and 8th grade girls level. He has been coaching AAU basketball for 5 years and is in his 3rd season with the Wizards. Currently, he is coach of the IHM CYO 7th and 8th grade girls IN Wilmington, DE, where they were the 2008 Diocesan Champions. Dan was a 3 year varsity player at Delcastle High in DE. He was co-captain in his senior year where they were state championship runner-up.

Jim Torrance is in his 2nd year coaching with the Wizards. He has coached St. Agnes CYO 7th and 8th grade boys for the last 10 years, leading them to the regional championship this past season. Jim played his high school basketball at Bishop Shanahan High School and played 2 years of college basketball at Kutztown University.

Taylor Thompson is completing her senior year at Downingtown East HS, where she was a guard on this years PIAA AAAA state semi-finalist team. She is a former Wizards player. Taylor will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall on a soccer scholarship.
